Our JATC has been hosting the “Green Specialist Training” this summer.  This training series of 6 eight hour courses is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Train-the-Trainer portion is being taught by two Purdue University instructors.

 

Upon successful completion of all six classes participants will be eligible to take a certification test given by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.  (More information in the class).

 

This fall classes will be offered during the day.  Lunch will be provided and after completing all six classes (as scheduled) students will receive a $100.00 gas card.  Some of the other groups teaching these classes include LU 292, LU 110 Sheet Metal Workers and the Steelworkers.  Here is a brief description of the classes:

 

ENERGY MANAGEMENT:  Managing the usage and identify efficiencies to save money.

 

DUMPSTER DIVE:  Learning the fundamentals of solid waste streams and their sources.

 

GREEN CHEMISTRY:  Using chemicals from cleaning to machining.

 

WATER CONSERVATION:  Using alternative methods to reduce

costs and conserve.

 

POLLUTION SOLUTIONS:  Improving emissions and creating

management systems.

 

SUSTAINABILITY IN PRACTICE:  Creating a successful green program.
