Local COPE Committees

Each local Union should have a COPE Committee
This committee operates under the direction of the Business Manager or the Local Union's COPE Director. The size of the Committee depends upon the size of the Local Union.

Local Union COPE Committees can play an important role.
Some Functions of the Committee:

  • Voter registration
  • Keeping a current voter registration list of every Member
  • Mobilizing the Membership for political initiatives.
  • Meeting the candidates and lobbying
  • Endorsing and supporting candidates
  • Attend meetings Political Functions
  • Educating Members concerning issues and candidates

Local Unions should participate with the Central Labor Bodies and the State AFL-CIO.

Get out the Vote (GOTV) Campaigns. Perhaps our most effective voice. The Local COPE Committee should coordinate these efforts during elections.

  • Phone Banks
  • Door to Door
  • Political Sign Making
  • Absentee Ballots (Urging Members and others to vote absentee if they can't make it to the polls on election day)
